Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2015: Quote 50.

martin luther king jr, mlk day

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’

Interesting thing, my dad happens to be a huge admirer of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.–as most are–and in the spirit of the times, he asked that God would bring him a child with the same spirit to help and love others. Apparently, that child was me! Now, I don’t know about me inspiring national movements or anything, but I do love and appreciate what he did. My birthday also happens to be the day before his–January 14th–which was apparently confirmation enough for my father :). So, in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, here are a few inspirational quotes. And remember, always act kindly and love cheerfully.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

Deliver Me.

These do not belong to me. They are reaching in places once frequently known, frequently visited. These can’t be mine: these hands, this mind, this essence.

Less frequent now. Spurs of the moment. Brought on by something of the known & unknown. The subconscious. Reflections of my past.

Everything originates from somewhere, is derived from something. Every action can be traced back to a thought. Every. Action.

I acted. I acted unseemly.. Misguided & misused- I acted. I became something that my former wouldn’t have recognized, something she couldn’t have imagined. I became the unknown.

But in present years I have become aware.. Aware of what you do, of who you are. I don’t like it, I don’t like you.

The mind must be monitored. Everything has a way in and it’s your job to ensure that it doesn’t corrupt you, that it doesn’t destroy you.

They are trying to ensure that you don’t survive, that you abide by their rules and their rules only. But, you mustn’t let them change you.. Not more so than they already have.

You were pure once.. Your mind unaltered, your body unscathed, your heart unbroken. You were You, once.

Be You again.

Be You in Him.

Deliver me.
