ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks: Part II

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks: Part II

ColourPop is on the rise and I am so happy to have found them at their peak. As you guys know, I recently tried the company’s Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks and fell in love. At $6 a bottle, ColourPop’s matte lipsticks are giving competitors a run for their money. They have a wide range of colors for every skin tone, they’re long-lasting, non transferable, truly matte, and don’t require dishing out $17-$20 just for lipstick!

This time around, I ordered a mini kit of the liquid lipsticks and two of the regular bottles. In theory, the mini kits are great. You can sample multiple colors at once, or gift them to others to try, and they’re exactly $20 each for 5 colors; they also come in cute little packages. But overall, I don’t recommend getting the kits if you’re looking for the greatest value. Each mini bottle is only .9 oz, which is 1/4 of the regular 3.2 oz bottles. We’re talking $4 for .9 oz or $6 for 3.2– I mean why not buy the whole bottle, right?

This particular mini kit is called “Kitty,” and the 5 colors are:

Bianca:

a lighter pink, very similar to the Midi I’d previously purchased, but slightly darker

Times Square:

a tannish/pinkish color that looks similar to Bianca (if you watch the video below, you’ll see what I mean)

Be Merry:

a true pink, that reminds me of bubblegum!

Glitter:

a gorgeous purple color, with hints of pink

Last Dance:

a beautiful orange, that resembles the color of sunsets, desert sands, and the grand canyon

The other two colors that I purchased were Creeper and Kapow. Now, I absolutely love Creeper because it’s just what I needed. I actually have a wonderful red lipstick, Rimmel Red Lasting Finish by Kate Moss, and it even has a lovely cinnamon scent; but, it’s not matte and that’s totally what I’m all about these days. I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of the red lips! Kapow, on the other hand, is a pretty good color, but I wasn’t as thrilled about it because it wasn’t what I initially wanted. To be honest, I intended to purchase Limbo, as I was looking for a brown color and my younger sister has it, but I ordered Kapow by mistake. It’s a purplish-grey and still very pretty, just not what I was looking for– I’d recommend that one as well.

Much like before, I liked all of the colors but I wouldn’t wear them all. Some of the colors were just too bold for me–at least for now. I’m still standing by the quality of the product and if you’re looking for a matte finish, these lipsticks will not disappoint. I will say, though, do not spill the liquid on your clothes because it’s not coming out– lesson learned!!

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Review

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Lipsticks

For years, I played it safe when it came to wearing lipstick. The boldest I would wear was red–and I don’t consider that very bold because everyone rocks a red lip from time to time. But lately, I’ve been adding some variety to my makeup collection and purposefully wearing more colors. I didn’t have many options on hand, so I decided to see if the company everyone was raving about would live up to the hype. The Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks and “lippie” stix were all the rave in the YouTube & Instagram communities.

The colors that I purchased are listed below, along with pictures of how they’re advertised and snapshots from my video. I also included a few selfies from when I wore the colors out. I’m pretty impressed! Most of the colors look great and offer a true matte finish– I get compliments every time I wear them. My favorite would be LAX, a burgundy that’s great for the winter months. My least favorite would have to be Midi, but I should have looked at the color more closely before purchasing it. It’s a summer color and definitely not suited for my skin tone. But as ridiculous as it looked, the longer I had it on, the more it grew on me.

Or, if you’re familiar with Colourpop and their other products, let me know about those. I’m thinking of trying their lippie stix and eyeshadows. As always, stay flawlessly beautiful and live in love!

New Skincare Routine: AMBI Products

Having clear skin is not only attributed to a great daily skin care routine, but largely to what we eat, our water intake, how much sleep we’re getting and how much we’re exercising. I’ve asked several people, who have seemingly flawless skin, what their secret is and they always credit their lifestyle first. So many of them drink very few sodas, if any at all, tons of water, and they exercise. Unfortunately, I’m already starting in the negative, as my diet is so wishy-washy. I know that what I currently eat contributes to my random breakouts, and eliminating unhealthy, processed foods from my diet could stop those.

I’ve never had much of an acne problem, just breakouts related to poor eating habits. In middle school–even as a fit dancer, I might add–I would have at least one can of Sprite and a Snickers or Twix bar A DAY! Because of that, I would get random pimples or tiny bumps across my face; when I didn’t eat those things, the breakouts didn’t occur. The same thing applies present day–my body always lets me know when it’s fed up with me. To be honest, it wouldn’t be a big deal but I am always picking at everything! If I see something, blackheads, whiteheads, redness, anything, my first instinct is to try to squeeze it away; but, that’s exactly what you shouldn’t do! The only time you should try to rid yourself of a pimple is when it has a whitehead; and when you attack that sucker, it should be with a q-tip. Our skin is oily, our pores are open, and our hands are dirty. You should try to keep your hands out of your face as much as possible. But because I didn’t following this advice, I have dark scar marks. These can fade away naturally by using cocoa butter or shea butter, but it may take longer.

If you guys remember my recent LUSH post, I was trying their exfoliating wash and fading cream. I wasn’t a fan of the results, so I reverted back to a product I used in high school and college. The quality of the above photographs aren’t great, but hopefully you can tell that my skin was pretty clear. I had very few scarred marks, and because I ate healthier, it remained clearer longer. At the time, AMBI was a major part of my skin care routine; it helped fade my scarred marks and even out my skin tone. I think it worked pretty well and I saw results fairly quickly. The only negative is that the products aren’t natural. The fading cream doesn’t smell great, but that’s because you can smell the alpha hydroxy acid–aka the agent that helps with discoloration.

ambi, skincare, facewash, fade cream, black women, black skincare, women of color, beauty tips

AMBI is targeted towards women of color, and as they stated “designed for melanin-rich skin.” I purchased three items:

  • the Even & Clear Exfoliating Wash, which helps to remove dead skin cells, clear skin of pimples and breakouts, and promotes even skin tones;
  • the Even & Clear Daily Moisturizer, a lightweight moisturizer with soy and vitamins C & E, that helps to even the skin tone and reduce discolorations;
  • and the Fade Cream for Normal Skin, which helps to fade dark mark, while maintaining the natural skin tone (I should have gotten the one for oily skin).

In addition to the AMBI products, I also use Equate’s Makeup Removal Wipes as a pre-cleanser on makeup days. If you’re interested in seeing what that looks like, I’ve linked my YouTube
video
below.

My journey toward healthy, clear skin is an ongoing process, but I’m sure this will be a great start to that. If you guys have any tips or products that you love, please write about them below. Until next time!

Yesterday, I was feeling fancy. & if you follow me on snapchat you would’ve seen my shameless self promotion and me jamming to Beyonce’s “Feeling Myself” lol– my username is callynnlynell, btw! You guys know that since I’ve gained weight, I don’t really view myself the way I used to. At times I don’t always see the beauty, even though I know it’s there, and when I look at pics it’s almost depressing to see how big I allowed myself to get. But no worries, I’m not depressed and I’m working on it! It is nice, though, to have days like this–where I feel fancy. Sure, I see the roundness in my cheeks and my boobs look like implants, lol, but I still look hot–I don’t care what anyone says! Some days, you just have to brush it off and tell yourself that you look amazing, no matter what! There’s no reason to beat yourself up; just use what you see now as motivation to change & become what you want to be in the future. I may not be forever 21, but I am forever beautiful.

Necklace: Banana Republic Factory Store

The ring and smaller bracelet are from my mother and are quite old, so I don’t have links for those! Also, the Banana Republic Factory Store site has a very limited selection & their jewelry isn’t on there at all, so I linked to something I would’ve worn from the retail store.

Mini LUSH Haul!

LUSH, LUSH & MORE LUSH! Heads up, I am obsessed with this company. Not sure how someone could love a company after only two visits, but I’d also say they’re production, marketing, and distribution strategies are ON POINT if they’re able to make this happen! I made my first visit a few months ago and it was very quick; I purchased one of the sample boxes/gift boxes, this one specifically, and a honey trap lip balm. This time, I took my time, inhaled every scent possible, and chatted with one of their employees. She even gave me mini hand “massages” so that I could carefully and informatively choose which products I wanted to try. Take a look at what I got!

BODY

lush, lush haul, cosmetics, skin care, body, bubble bath, twilight

This is the Twilight Bath Bomb. It contains one of my favorite scents, lavender, and is great for ultimate relaxation.I like bath bombs because they make pretty colors in the water–there’s blue on the inside– and this one has a cool, little design. I would suggest trying to cut the bath bomb in half if you want to get more than one use out of it, but I just choose to use the entire thing.

It’s also vegan!

Here we have The Comforter Bubble Bar. This lovely pink and white delight smells kind of fruity, but I couldn’t quite pinpoint the smell. The website listed the source as blackcurrant candy, which I’ve never smelled, but it’s a type of berry and I can smell that. Bubble bars can used multiple times, the amount will depend on how much you run under the water. This is my first bubble bar and I haven’t used it yet, but I’m excited for the comforting bubbles! Look out mother, I think I’ll be borrowing your jacuzzi for this one 😉

This baby is vegan!

lush, lush haul, cosmetics, skin care, body, soap, citrus

Sometimes, I need motivation to hop in the shower. Although the desire to be clean is compelling, I tend to have the stereotypical college-guy-syndrome and could easily skip it. Hey, I’m just being honest! So, I invested in products with scents would draw me in, lol. For showering, I purchased the Sandstone Soap. This soap has the scent that my nose smells anytime I enter LUSH. As I mentioned in my Youtube video (check it out below!), I was searching for something that smelled like this and the lady insisted it was a mix a smells. But I found this wonderful, citrusy goodness. Apparently, it was inspired by Brazilians who “mix sand with tanning oil;” so, it’s a great exfoliator.

Vegan!

FACE

lush, lush haul, cosmetics, skin care, body, vanishing cream, herbilismI’m not one to really break out and I don’t really have acne, but there are outbreaks whenever I eat crappy foods. My problem is that I touch my face too much! Everyone knows you should keep your hands out of your face as much as possible, and you definitely shouldn’t pop pimples. Well, I am the popping queen! Which has unfortunately left me with blemishes/dark spots. So, I invested in Lush’s Vanishing Cream, which is a facial moisturizer, and Herbalism, their facial cleanser. Herbalism is a deep-cleanser that exfoliates and tones the skin, while getting rid of excess oils. & both are good for people with oily skin, like me!

Herbalism is vegan!

lush, lush haul, cosmetics, skin care, body, honey trap, lip balm

Lastly, there’s the Honey Trap Lip Balm. Like I mentioned earlier, I purchased this during my first trip and I use it daily. It has sort of honey, orangey, pepperminty flavor/scent and it’s a great moisturizer for the lips.

I also recommend the Bubblegum Lip Scrub. Good for getting dead skin off, especially if your lips are already peeling. Or, you can exfoliate before they get to that point. You don’t need very much and it’s made from edible sugar–plus other things. But don’t get to excited, you won’t want to lick your lips every time because the flavoring gets old. I still have some from before and it will last me a really long time, so I didn’t purchase any more.

It’s also vegan!

I also created my very first “official” YouTube video, so be sure to give that a look as well. Let me know if you guys shop at LUSH & which products you may be using. I’m sure it won’t be long before I’m writing about them again, lol.

Big Lots Beauty Haul.

big lots

What’s Big Lots you ask? Only one of the best places ever! Sure, everyone loves places like Wal-Mart–those devils–and Sams, but have you been to Big Lots? Thanks to my mom’s smart shopping habits, I now know that they have everything from food stuffs to hair & beauty products. And at least half of the items are from great name brands. For example, several of the food items that my mom buys from Whole Foods can also be found at Big Lots; beauty brands like CoverGirl, Maybelline, L’Oreal, & Neutrogena are all at the big BL; and everything else like household cleaning items, furniture & home decorations, and kids toys or schools supplies. Whaaaa? I know, right! The best part: it’s much cheaper!!

All of the items below were purchased at the Lots & for less than the original retail price; and although some of the savings were only, say, $.50 per nail polish, that’s not bad for each bottle–the savings add up people! Brands send their items to specific stores, and then those stores send their excess items to Big Lots–nothing is wrong with them. Because of that, they can sell them at a cheaper price. All of the items featured were purchased for less than $30, with the exception of some of the nail polishes. I bought 10 of the Sinful Colors in a separate transaction, at a different time for about $20.

So, if you guys are interested I have all of the prices listed below. Also, it’s important to note that my mom joined the Rewards program, so she has the privilege of getting an additional 20% off when they have their big sales. What does all of this mean, you ask? It means that you can get eyeliner for $.80 and if I were you, I’d head to Big Lots! 🙂 Be sure to follow them on twitter to stay updated on their great deals!
